LOL! Hadn't thought about the impact on the couch! I can see it now...shortly after your guest has admired the beautiful wall...sits down on couch with a cup of tea and it starts "raining" indoors.

I did notice that their outdoor designs differ in the water catch method than the indoor ones...considered getting one for outdoors and trying to grow lettuce or berries in them, but I wonder if they would all be seriously reaching for the light in this northern climate? I also wondered what those trays might do to the side of my house and the paint, especially if I am spraying them with water regularly.

just to let you know, ive undergone a lot of research into greenwalls and have created one myself.

After looking into it a lot and getting prices from almost every supplier i came to the conclusion that the pregrown panels such as ELT, sky gardens etc are way too expensive and in a lot of instances the areas that i wanted to grow the plants were not suitable or that my structure was not man enough for the job, as the panels can weigh up to 90kg when saturated.

Looking into alternatives i found two companies who provide a trellis system made from stainless steel wire ropes, companies being MMA Architectural Systems (agent for the well known Jakob) and a smaller company called stainless steel solutions.

After contacting both i settled to do my dealings with MMA, very friendly and knowledgable staff, with a fantastic range of products and would also take on planting and can manufacture stainless steel planters, also MMA were cheaper than stainless steel solutions limited range.

This method with the wire ropes / cables is much easier to install and most importantly its LIGHTWEIGHT, fair enough you have to wait a while for the plants to grow but surely this is part of the fun!!!

please dont hesitate to ask me any questions about the system i used, i can probably find some pictures of the wall i did aswell if you want to see them.

Their website is Welcome to MMA Architectural Systems Ltd - JAKOB AG

keen to hear about anyone elses experiences

I see, now that I've gone back to the first post, that the link I just posted is to the work of the same man...

It's a big pic, or I'd put the image here.

Vertical gardens

I'm all about vertical gardens. There's so many different ways to build them. You can have irrigation pumps, wick watering systems, systems that are watered naturally by rain, etc. You can have vines growing up trellises on a wall.. or even start them from the top of the wall and have the vines grow down. There's a bunch of ideas and pictures specifcially about vertical gardens here.

Cool Green walls

Living walls have been installed in Europe for many years thanks to people like Patrick Blanc but are only starting to catch up in North America.

Better late than never!

Vancouver in particular seems to be in the middle of a green wall revolution.

Check out this cool green wall website

Saturn and Ispichkin,

Check our new line of innovative vertical gardens and waterwall vertical gardens at Vertical Gardens. I think you might like them. They are extremely lightweight (about one tenth of soil based systems), can be easily hung from ceiling or wall, can be made into virtually any configuration, and, best of all they are beautiful. We get a lot of people saying "Wow." Check it out, let us know what you think on the "Contact" page.

Cheers,
Harry
