Smile Hello from Arkansas

Hi Everyone,
Glad to be here. I am always interested in knowing more and more about gardening. We recently (past two years) moved to Arkansas from New Mexico and I am having problems adjusting to an elevation of 1000 feet versus the 8000 feet I was used to (for 45 years) in the high mountain desert. We moved from zone 3-4 to zone 6 - 7! Any tips are welcome!

Welcome magicwrd!

You might want to check out this very useful site for zone 6 gardeners - Demesne.info. They've got tips for growing in this zone for every month of the year.

Pay special attention to watering during winter. It is very important in this climate since "dry cold" conditions exist at times.
Keep all plants watered during dry periods even though some may be dormant.
Roundup and Finale herbicides are labeled to control winter weeds in Bermuda grass once it has gone completely dormant. Apply when temperatures reach at least 50 degrees F.
Now is a good time to make structural improvements in a landscape.
Light pruning of evergreens can be used for holiday decorations.
Some continued leaf removal may be necessary.
Fertilize pansies as needed and as conditions permit.

Hi: I lived and gardened in the Little Rock area for 12 years and belonged to the Master Gardeners for a couple of years. In Maryland now, but might be able to help you out with some questions about gardening in Arkansas. I grew lots of perennials for shade and sun.
I am also new to thegrowspot--just joined yesterday.

Zone 6-7 would be amazing. Lakes are already freezing over here.
