LadyHawke is on a distinguished road
Hello from NW Iowa

Hi....I happened to be cruising facebook, clicked a link for gardening, and ended up here!!

I live in NW Iowa, within the Loess Hills, technically zone 4, sometimes zone 5, depending on the year....I think we were zone 3 this winter...hahaha

After being liberated from my job with a major computer manufacturer in South Dakota back in 2003, I received a grant to go back to school, so I chose to earn my degree in Horticulture and Landscape Design. Of course, my own yard does not look like much of anything, but there are some nice yards and gardens around town!

I also adjunct teach on occasion at our local community college. This semester I am teaching Greenhouse management and Landscape Design Techniques. I would LOVE to teach full time, and if the program ever gets to where they need a regular instructor, that is what I will be doing!

To supplement our income in between teaching jobs, I work part time at our local library. it is an okay job...I love meeting and talking with the people, but I wish I could be home more....don't we all!

I am married to a wonderful man...he is from Nova Scotia, Canada originally. We have been married going on 8 years now...it sure does not seem like it!

I also have a 17 year old son, he will be 18 in June...SCARY!! He has struggled in school, although he has a superior IQ, and finally after 7, almost 8, years of failure and arguing with the school, they FINALLY tested him and discovered he is dyslexic with a 2nd grade reading comprehension and Central Auditory Processing Disorder (CAPD) with a processing speed of 5:1...so even though he is a brilliant kid, he could not grasp the lessons being taught, and once he finally did, it took him 5 times longer to complete assignments...
After hiring an attorney and getting to pre-mediation before a Due Process Hearing, the school settled with us and our son now does his education online. He still has a number of credits to earn, but eventually he will get his diploma.

This ordeal with the school is what also prompted me to learn more about advocating, education law and a child's right to a Free and Appropriate Public Education...
Since then, I have started a website with a friend to help other parents who's kids struggle in school...

Since I have so much going on in life...besides the fact that I am a GEMINI and we are NEVER organized!!.....I frequent, and moderate at, a website specifically created to help women (and a guy or two) get the housework done!!
We are all SHEs, which stands for Sidetracked Home Executives and we all live pretty much in CHAOS, which means Can't Have Anyone Over Syndrome!

Our family lives on 3 acres of land in a very small rural community in NW Iowa...we have 5 BIG dogs, 1 small dog, 10 cats and a bird...
And since I do alot of feral cat rescue, I became involved with yet another forum, and am a moderator there as well!

For relaxation and fun, I love to play games at pogo, and to help with meal planning, because I found we were eating out WAY too much, I subscribed to a weekly e-mail...so far we are liking it!!

So life keeps us all very busy....

I look forward to reading more about gardening here and learning some new tips, and maybe even answering some questions!!

Welcome LadyHawke! It sounds like you'll be able to add a lot to the discussions here - I'm excited

I'll definitely check out these links you included, especially the meal planning one. I've been on a kick myself to eat out less and it's kind of challenging to find good recipes and ideas for ALL of our family's meals. Thanks.
