Hello, New Gardener here.
Hello, I live in Central Florida and I have been attempting to have a cottage
garden. Or at least a facsimile of one. Right now I have a whole bed of hollyhocks, foxglove, dames rocket, blue darts and stocks which are growing too fast due to the warm early spring here. My stocks are already sending up buds. These were all planted in the early Fall. To grow cold weather flowers here, you have to start seed in the Fall and consider them annuals. Last year I had beautiful hollyhocks. I have never been able to get foxglove to bloom here but I am hopeful this year. Hollyhock Garden 2007/8 - a photoset on Flickr and last years blooms. Love of Hollyhocks - a photoset on Flickr Hoping to be in touch with florida gardeners who are also trying to grow flowers in the wrong zone. I have had good luck with Bee balm. So far no luck with Clematis. |

Which threads are just for general flower lovers. I like growing many different
perennials from seed and bi-annuals. I have yet managed to get foxglove to bloom in Florida but I am hoping this year I will have success. I have a lovely black/purple Florida hollyhock which is not a true hollyhock but very adapted to Florida. I love all flowering plants. |
