Transplanting Rhododendron

I planted a rhododendron when I moved into this house in 2003. It really hasn't grown much since then. It is producing flowers but one of the branches has turned brown and isn't producing leaves. I'm thinking that the ground is too acidic as it is underneath some blue spruce trees. I'm wondering if it is safe to move it to better soil. Would appreciate any help.
