A Real Garden
The Home Garden in all its Glory.
27 June 2007 A real Garden 27 June 2007 Zone 5B. These pictures are of the complete garden. The first portion is flowers and the second is vegetables. All pictures are annotated on the top center. The growth this year has been exceptional. The vegetable garden is incredible, and most plants are larger than life. June weather has been way above average for sun and heat. Now all we require is rain. This is my fourth year for this property. The yard was all grass when purchased. I had to put drainage ditches in under ground to remove the surface water. Fortunately the soil was good clay, and I put in about 50 yards of vegetative compost, which is available form the city at half a yard per day during the month of May. I also have access to city wood chips which I use extensively, since it is partly composted, and I find it opens up the garden soil, making it more friable. This year 2008, I expect a great garden. _________________________ Durgan Zone 5 Durgan's Garden Journal 2008 2008 Garden Journal Durgan's Garden Journal 2007 2007 Garden Journal |

Wait for 2008. This is my fifth year, and most of the bull work is completed. Now I can fine tune. There is still about a foot of hard snow on the ground, but it is fast disappearing, then I can start.

Now if ever their was a testimonial why having a digital camera when you got to the garden it certainly are your pictures. As I sit here contemplating the possibility of an 8" snow storm tonight your photos do give me hope that Spring and Summer are coming to Chicago someday.
For some reason the picture of Neena struck me as if she had this look of hmmmm what can I get into next. I see that look all to often on my little Carren terrier Snooky .
