Lightbulb Bonsai Inspiration

When you don't have a lot of space, besides going vertical, another tack you can take is to go small with your garden. For some inspiration, here's some bonsai pictures to get you started.

(Several photos are taken at the US National Arboretum's Bonsai Grove)

Bonsai Trident Maple

Bonsai Azalea

Juniper Bonsai

Bonsai Ficus

Bonsai Grove: "A slab slab type grove planting made to represent a woodland scene most probably representing a path on the way to a Japanese temple."

Bonsai Satsuki Azalea

Unknown Bonsai

Another Unknown Bonsai

From Wikipedia:
Quote:
Bonsai is the art of aesthetic miniaturization of trees by growing them in containers. Originating in Chinese pen-zai (Chinese: 盆栽, "potted plant") and penjing (Chinese: 盆景, "tray scenery"), Japanese bonsai developed its localization of techniques and aesthetics after its introduction to Japan by imperial embassies returning from China in the ninth century. In Western culture, the word "bonsai" is commonly used as an umbrella term for all miniature trees.

These are really beautiful. I especially like the Juniper Bonsai and the Bonsai Grove. I'd love any info on how to maintain and trim these trees to keep them looking like these photos.

Simply amazing! I have been trying to convert a Walmart "bonsai" into something pretty, but these specimens put it to shame. They are truly an art form.

Bonsai has always fascinated me I think that the patience it requires is what impresses me most. The fact that some of these plants have grown for decades to get to what they are today.

There is a great site about bonsai at The Bonsai Primer

It is one of eight sites listed under bonsai in my links directory on my website. If you are in need of a great resource there are over 1200 sites on gardening related items there broken down by category.
