Gardening Challenges In The City
Being in Chicago there are a lot of challenges in the city when it comes to gardening. I think one of my biggest is trying to grow on the north side of the building. The temperature there is always colder and for most of the year the shade makes it very difficult .
I am very curious to know what others find as their biggest challenges while gardening in an urban environment?

I may not be as "urban" as you... a little more "suburban" but I am in the city. I would say my first challenge is space, space, space. My second challenge has always been sunlight balance. Either too much or too little. Once I set up an irrigation system, it helped the areas with too much significantly. Have never found a good solution for shade other than lettuce and potatoes do ok in it.

I think space too but also having trees. Of course I want trees but that adds more shade and less space. Also topography. The south side of our house is at ground level and the north side is two stories high. it's this steep \
