Scarecrow's Garden Journal Notes: December 2011
The flower of the Black Cumin is unusual and is followed by an equally unusual seed head...similar to it's cousin Love in the Mist. The Agapanthus have been spectacular especially considering these don't need any watering at all...probably why they are considered a weed in some areas! Creamy white Nasturtium Milkmaid from Diggers makes an unusual change from the orange and yellow varieties! Finally I have a PINK Hollyhock... I think I have Kate to thank for this one. :) Even the Bronze Fennel flowers are unaffected by bugs this year and are making a stunning display. Temperatures this month: Lowest Min 3C Highest Min 21C Lowest Max 19.8C Highest Max 37.3C 68.5 mm Rain Rain comparison with other years: Dec average is 22.7mm: 2011 68.5mm 2010 43.5mm 2009 4mm 2008 44.9mm 2007 26mm Propagation: listed in weekly updates Week 1 Week 2 Week 3 Week 4 Harvest Tally: There is something from the garden every day at this time of the year!
